“It's time to get back to our roots and revamp our approach to free expression on Facebook and Instagram. Our current complex moderation systems are prone to mistakes, even if it's just 1% of posts, which means millions of people can be unintentionally censored. To simplify and strengthen free expression on our platforms, we're going to take a new approach. Firstly, we're getting rid of fact-checkers and replacing them with ‘Community Notes', similar to the system used by X, starting in the US. We're also going to partner with the US government to push back against global efforts to censor more. The US has the strongest constitutional protections for free expression, and it's essential that we work together to resist the growing trend of censorship globally. The European Union, in particular, has been increasing its efforts to institutionalize censorship, making it challenging for innovators to build new solutions. To counter this trend, we need the support of the US government. In the past four years, even the US government's efforts to force American companies to sensor content have emboldened other governments to do the same. But now, with this new opportunity, we can restore free expression and I'm excited to contribute.”
