Then, the object, in my opinion, is completely wrong because it should have been focused on combating the problem of abandonments, because this is the real issue of this motion. The wolf does not attack humans and there are no documented cases of what is being said. The problem of scraps is the hybrids between wolves and dogs, and how to prevent them from forming? We must combat them in all possible ways, which is the result of abandonements, and therefore the abandonment of domestic dogs in the wild. So, the problem is not the wolf but the man who abandons his dog, which mates with wild wolves and creates a hybrid, which is devastating, as is the case of the wild boar that now inhabits the Lombardy territory, often an hybrid between the wild boar and the domestic pig, which is not afraid of humans and is ready to attack. The wolf is afraid of humans and does not attack them, if it finds them scared, it runs away. I read an article in a newspaper, I find that my colleague's proposal is not only foolish but also without scientific basis, not supported by data or facts. Moreover, it does not stem from a real need felt by the citizens of Lombardy, they do not ask that wolves be killed. In fact, there is no wolf emergency or even an orso emergency. These last have been spotted sporadically at high altitudes, the episodes that occurred in 2020 can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Let's turn to wolves, there has been not even one single aggression against humans by these mammals, as fascinating as they are, whose presence testifies to the health of the ecosystem of the Lombardy region, as if it were not enough that wolves in Lombardy are at a lower density than in most other regions, where they do not even speak of alarm or preoccupation, let alone the fact that the wolf is considered a protected species in Italy. Therefore, we would like to eliminate this status to be able to hunt them, as some claim. According to some, there are too many specimens, but this does not justify an intervention of this type by the institutions, which should lead to the drastic reduction of the herds. As for the cases of predation, it is true that the number of requests for compensation has increased, which are always satisfied through a regional insurance policy. From 2018 to 2023, the total of these indemnities has been around €100,000, or €20,000 per year, which, according to someone, is an astronomical figure, but in fact it is a very small and sustainable cost, which does not burden the taxpayer. It seems that we are trying to find ridiculous excuses to allow hunters to have fun, preying on the poor wolves, which, by the way, have the task of defending and respecting this ecosystem.
