Morte Ramy Elgaml, centinaia di persone al corteo a Milano. La fidanzata: “Non meritava questa fine”
“Approximately 1,000 people gathered in Piazza XXIV Maggio in Milan on January 9th to join the protest organized by the student collective Rebelot, to pay homage to Ramy Elgammal, an 19-year-old who tragically died on November 24th after a high-speed car chase with the carabinieri. Present at the event were Ramy's brother and his girlfriend.
The protest was a solemn tribute to a young life cut short, with the speaker lamenting the senseless and unnecessary fatal chase that led to Ramy's death. The protesters chanted slogans such as “Fares pagherà” (Fares will pay), and called for justice and truth, demanding that those responsible be held accountable.
The speaker recalled that Ramy was just 19 years old when he lost his life, and mourned the fact that his brother Fares, who was with him at the time of the chase, is still being held in prison. The protesters floated a message of solidarity, stating that it's time to send a clear message to those who have hurt and continue to hurt: “Chi sbaglia paga, se non paga in questa vita, pagherà nella prossima” (Those who make mistakes will pay, if not in this life, they will pay in the next).
The speaker also called for a revolution in the way society addresses the needs of the periphery, where communities are often left neglected and marginalized. “Non c'è più nessuno mi riporterà rami” (Nobody will bring back Ramy), and “io non sarò tranquillo fino a quando non vedo la gente che ha sbagliato pagare” (I won't be at peace until I see those who made the mistake pay). The protesters vowed to continue fighting for a dignified life, where there is space for everyone, including those like Ramy, who were taken too soon.”
