Valeria e Carla Bruni, iconic figure in the world of Italian cinema, have never acted together in the same film. And it’s not just a coincidence, according to Valeria herself, who revealed in an interview with La Stampa that her sister refuses to work with her. The reason is not clear, but it may date back to their childhood.
As Valeria explained, she was a very strict and severe mother figure, often giving orders to her younger sister. “I was a bit of a child abuser,” she jokingly admitted. “I used to torture her, even up to the age of 12. I’d invite her to join me and my friends, but only if she stayed at least 20 meters away from us, and I’d continue to tease her by calling her ‘Cespuglioni,’ the name of one of her many dolls with red hair. Since then, Carla has decided she’ll never take an order from me again. To me, Carla was a daughter, and I was a very strict mother.”
But the memories of their childhood are not just lighthearted and playful, as evidenced by the tradition they followed on Christmas Eve. For two or three years, they would stay up late waiting for Santa Claus, and Valeria would use the opportunity to teach Carla about sex. “I’d give her lessons on how babies are born, how to give a kiss… all this while waiting for Santa. It was as if I was telling her a story in installments.”
